The process of osmosis dates back to 1748 when a French scientist discovered this concept, although at that time it wasn’t put to use for any such device. Through their subsequent tests they also found that the membrane was strong enough to tolerate fresh water and sea water under certain pressure and was durable enough to be used for water filtration on a continuous basis.
Since this process was opposite of the natural osmosis process where the less concentrated liquid flows through a selective membrane towards the liquid of higher concentration in order to balance the content, this filtration technique was termed as reverse osmosis and the systems developed were termed as best reverse osmosis systems to purify water.
First water filtration plant using the reverse osmosis plant was built in Coalinga, California and in 1965 it launched a pilot program that had attracted the attention of all the commercial and government institutions around the world.
